Sounds like Union Pacific had different ideas about the effort needed to turn a brake wheels.Robert Bowdidgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14155962656525181088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3912308714924865824.post-12477732038044208292016-07-04T22:32:06.936-07:002016-07-04T22:32:06.936-07:00And thanks for the question. The big differences are only one brake lever instead of the correct two, and the missing connecting rod passing through the gussets (or behind the trusses, I'm still not sure which).

Full kit documentation here:
http://www.drycreekmodels.com/resources/Hart-Gon-instructions.pdf

The whole question of how accurate to make the brake gear starts hitting the question of why we're building railroad models in the first place. Some folks might say we want to make the models accurate just because our goal is to make accurate models. (That's why we're not building models of P-51s with Russian air force markings.) The crowd that builds models for contests would insist on the accuracy because that's what the contests value. I'm always a bit torn - I'm 3d printing these cars so I can have a bunch on my garage layout, and part of that is figuring out how to make decent models quickly without being too obsessed about details. However, I also realize I'm building (and selling) these cars as a way to share a bit of freight car history, and I'd like to be as accurate as possible as I share the story of these cars.Robert Bowdidgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14155962656525181088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3912308714924865824.post-89724713491259937342016-07-04T18:20:36.260-07:002016-07-04T18:20:36.260-07:00So, now we wonder: How close was your "this l...So, now we wonder: How close was your "this looks plausible" initial arrangement to the one on the actual datasheet?Brooks Moseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03250478647057775305noreply@blogger.com
